Pati Patni Aur Woh 250x200New Delhi, Saying producers cannot exploit children, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath has slammed reality show “Pati Patni Aur Woh” in which celebrity couples take care of babies not their own.

“For the sake of making a serial, the makers cannot exploit and harass the children,” Tirath told reporters here Thursday when told that some NGOs have complained to the ministry about the reality show.

“Even though the children’s parents are watching what is happening, the makers cannot separate them from their biological parents,” she said.

Women and Child Development secretary Anil Kumar said the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), an autonomous body that works for child rights, is looking into the matter.

“NCPCR has written to the I&B (information and broadcasting) ministry to take action and stop the serial,” he said.

Last week, an NGO – Uday Foundation – made a written complaint against the show. The NGO wrote to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, the NCPCR and the labour ministry.

“Pati Patni Aur Woh”, inspired by international reality show “Baby Borrowers”, is about parenting. Right from living the life of an eight-month pregnant woman to taking care of an infant, a toddler, and a teenager – the show will show five couples doing it. It began Sep 28.

Rakhi Sawant-Elesh Parujanwala, Shilpa Saklani-Apurva Agnihotri, Juhi Parmar-Sachin Shroff, Mouni Roy-Gaurav Chopra and onscreen couple Gurmeet Chaudhary-Debina Bonnerjee are in the show.

NDTV Imagine said parents of the children were watching the proceedings via closed-circuit television.

Hi this is my response to the article ”Rakhi’s “Pati Patni Aur Woh” raises minister’s ire”
I am relieved that our minister Mr. Krishna Tirath has taken up this matter seriously.
It is very obvious, when you are watching this particular show, that the babies are far from happy. Infact it is very clear sometimes when the baby is crying that the baby is not crying in a normal day to day manner but with extreme fear or anguish. The baby cry clearly indictates that the baby is in trauma due to not seeing its parents around. How can one subject an innocent little bundle like that to such a pain? how can the parents of the baby allow this even if it means it is for a few moments? Are some of us losing our basic loving caring instincts in the mad scramble to make money? If we are not compassionate and concerned about a little helpless baby what compassion will we have for other human values? This seems like another major contribution to global warming.

I fully support Minister Mr. Krishna Tirath and all the NGO’s that have voiced out strongly against this treatment of little human babies…. FromHema Sardesai-Playback/pop Artiste

The show is disgusting!!! Im glad someone has acted upon this. The participants are not mature enough to handle such small kids and more over, they dont have the empathy for them. The participants clearly show their emotional anguish of not being able to cope up with babies. No one has forced them to do this, but they are in the show for their own benefits.. money and fame. One of the episode shows Mouni Roy cribbing that they have given a baby to her and the nanny doesnt help. who has forced them to do this? They get into shows for their own reasons and have no right to act nasty with babies. I also dont support the biological parents of the babies who have given them to actors.. I hope a decision is taken quickly on this issue
