Bollywood star Salman Khan was shocked when he heard actor Shiney Ahuja has been sentenced to seven years in prison in a rape case. But he hopes the actor will eventually be declared innocent.
“Seven years? Seven years is a lot! I have been locked up myself, so I know what happens,” said Salman, who himself has had brief stints in jail.
The 45-year-old actor, who was embroiled in a hit-and-run case as well as in a black buck shooting case, has good wishes for Shiney, who was sentenced by a Mumbai sessions court Wednesday.
“I hope he (Shiney) is innocent, and if anyone is trying to frame him, that person should come out in the open. Seven year jail term is too long, especially if someone has lied about it,” added Salman.
According to reports, Shiney might appeal against the verdict in the Bombay High Court.
Shiney, best known for films like “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi”, “Gangster” and “Life…In A Metro”, was arrested June 15, 2009, after medical tests on his maid confirmed sexual assault. He was granted bail in October 2009.
In September 2010, the maid retracted her statement and told the court that the rape never took place. She also stated before the judge that she made the serious charge against Shiney because of pressure from a woman who introduced her to the actor.
In a 109-page chargesheet, Shiney was accused of rape, criminal intimidation and holding his maid hostage.
In his defence, Shiney had argued that he was being framed.

And if he is guilty (which seems to be the case) would you support him Salman? All these actors speaking up for him disgust me. Listen up guys, he has been convicted of rape!!! Did you hear me, I said rape! Would you defend it if your daughter/ sister/ friend was his victim? You defenders are sickening!
Indeed, I feel sick when Salman speaks up for Shiney, he already has committed crime and has been in jail, but these stars who think they are superior and can get away with everything makes me feel disgusted. Indeed, I wonder how they would react if the victim is their daughter, sister, wife,..! I’m definately sure Ahuja and his wife has done everything to bribe and threaten the victim, it only shows how low-grade these people are. If I was the judge, I would convict Ahuja lifetime because he has ruined someones life for the rest of her life.
Shiney is a menacfe to our society and we have to punish criminals like him. Shame on Salman. You don’t know the facts. How can u think he maybe innocent.
It has been already proven that he is guilty of this rape – he admits he slept with the woman (and he is a married man!), and medical tests show that she was raped. What else can influence the court decision? A good bribe maybe?..
It is a shame that celebrities like Salman Khan are still on his side despite the evidence and even claim that 7 years in jail is too long for a … RAPE!? I hope this will be a lesson for all the men in the “privileged” society of fame or money.
