Mumbai, Priyanka Chopra is a “good actress” but daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai was more deserving of the best actress award for her work in “Jodhaa Akbar” at the 10th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) (awards) in Macau, says Jaya Bachchan.
“For all I know she must be really good in ‘Fashion’. I haven’t seen it. But I’ve seen Priyanka’s work in ‘Dostana’ and liked it. She’s undoubtedly a good actress,” Jaya told IANS.
“I don’t have any objection to her winning the award at IIFA. But I wonder why Aishwarya’s fine performance was ignored. I think she and the ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ cinematographer Kiran Deohans richly deserved recognition for their work,” she added.
A lot has been said and written about “Jodhaa Akbar” director Ashutosh Gowariker’s comments on Priyanka not deserving the best actress award for her performance in “Fashion” at the IIFA.
While most sections of the industry have come forward to deride Gowariker for what they see as his childish and impulsive outburst, the one aspect of his criticism against the IIFA jury awarding Priyanka and not Aishwarya that has raised eyebrows is his mention of Jaya on stage to substantiate his public objection.
“Priyanka, you are a very hardworking actress but I was just discussing with Jayaji why Aishwarya did not get the best actress award,” Gowariker said when he came on stage to collect best director award for “Jodhaa Akbar” from Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya.
Surprisingly, Jaya not only stands up for Gowariker, but also gives him a clean chit for mentioning her in his speech.
“First of all it is being presumed that Ashutosh unnecessarily mentioned my name regarding Aishwarya’s omission from the awards. The fact is, I suggested he bring up the question on stage at IIFA. We were discussing why Aishwarya has not been given any award for ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ and I suggested Ashutosh bring up the matter. So when he mentioned my name, he wasn’t doing anything wrong,” she said.
Commenting on Aishwarya’s performance in the film, she said: “The entire principal cast and crew of ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ have been rightly nominated for the popular awards and have won also. I find it very strange that Aishwarya, who lived her part and looked every inch the royal Rajasthani queen in her body language and overall performance, was ignored.”

Well it is Good Bad and Ugly..
The good is that Jodha Akbar took most of the awards.. well done.
The bad is that it is a shame that the judges heads were up their goola Gongs in not making the right decisions and in realising that what made Jodha Akbar so glamorous and the good first class acting and beautiful film. That they forgrt the main actors like the most desired Aishwarya
The Ugly is that the plonkers forgot the actress Aishwarya is who made it possible. So stick the GB&U up your goola gongs together with the IIFA’s
My question is” In what year Jodhaa Akbar was made/released and how long will it continue to compete in awards?
Looks like Jodhaa Akbar is too old a movie.
Ashutosh was not right in commenting on Priyanka’s win at IIFA.
Bachchan family should chill and forget about daughter-in-law winning all the awards.
Priyanka Chopra has won all the awards, Including some intentional ones. She has proved her acting abilities in Fashion once again, and has been Approved by all. Despite IIFA award controversy, she was mum and didnt react. Now Jaya Bachchan has also targetted her again, this time directly, who has not even seen the movie. . . . How many more proofs does she need to accept that priyanka is better than Aish
Gowariker and Jaya should stop making these comments in the public. This behavior does not suit their roles as the “elders” of Bollywood. Jaya should watch Fashion before making any comments about Priyanka. Priyanka has grown very much as an actress and VERY WELL deserved the Best Actress Award for that movie. The jury is experienced and must have seen something in her work in Fashion that they decided to award her rather than Aishwarya (who I agree did a great job in Jodhaa Akbar). So PLEASE suck it up Jaya and Gowariker.
I think she is right to say so, and secondly she did not say anything that bad about priyanka. she has the right to say what she think ,why is it that no one even think aboutaish in this flim? she too play a great part in this film.so please dont blame Jayaji for what she feels.
The kind of acting Priyanka choppra did was awesome, diffuclt n intensed, however, aish did well but not as good as priyanka did. Jaya and Ashutosh have lost their minds and have no right to point anyone. I would say Asish stans nowhere in front of Priyana..She is more deserving and defined actress. Aish has got bachans name thats why getting popularity but Priyanaka on the other side, made his own way n proved herself. Stop caomparing n be mature
Ash played a diffcult role with the traditional ethics,,I guess it was brillant effort shown.
Prinyaka had gone into character to bring naturalism. Both were good at in their own accords.I just wonder on what criteria is being used to judge the best actress…..I am sure both are best in their attributes as actors…all the best for future projects
I think jaya should atlest watch the movie then comment..she can’t judge priyanka without seeing her work..that is totally not right
Jaya and Aish are a disgrace for humiliating Priyanka like that
